WELCOME TO SITELINK

SiteLink provides easy access to data and information on key Protected Areas across Scotland ranging from sites of local natural heritage to designations of national and international importance. You can find out about the important features of sites, view site boundaries and download supporting documents. There is also data on site management agreements, consultation cases, and grant aided projects with links to other websites for supporting information.

You can search for information on designated sites using either a text based search or by using the map search tool.

PROTECTED AREA TEXT SEARCH

Search for sites by selecting one or more of the following options from the drop down lists: SNH Area, Designation type and/or Local Authority Area. A free text search can also be entered in the Search or Filter box. Click on the site name to view site details

Alternatively, you can access the interactive mapping tool using the map icon on the home page.

MAP SEARCH OPTIONS

Place name, Post code and Grid reference There are search boxes for Place names, Post codes and Grid References. For example, type in ‘Mains of Park’ in the Place box, press Search (or the return key) and wait. The website searches for the name and will present a number of results to select from. To search using a particular postcode, enter all or part of a postcode into the relevant search box. To search for a grid reference, use the OS Grid Reference format, eg.NH123456.

Field IDs and Farm Code Numbers You can also search by entering a Farm Code into the relevant box (using the 111/1111 format.) Click the Search button (or use the return key.) The map will then zoom into the relevant location at an appropriate scale. You can do the same with a Field ID (format NT11111/11111) in the Field Identifier search box.

Once you have located an area of interest, click the ‘Designated Sites’ tab above (to the right of the search options tab) to view any designations within the selected location.
NB The designated Areas data layer will only be active when the map resolution is 1:250,000 or higher.

Search on the map You can use the buttons at the upper right of the map to zoom in, zoom out or pan the map to a new area. The Identify button can be used to find additional information on any selected designated sites - hold your cursor over each button to find out what they do.

Getting Designated Site information To find out more about a designated site, click onto the Identify button and then click on a shaded area of the map. A box will appear listing all sites for the area you selected. To 'View more details' for any designation, click the blue question mark beside the site name. This will take you to the site details page of SiteLink.
