Habitat Map of Scotland (HabMoS)

Last update: 2018-04-24

Scottish Natural Heritage is coordinating the development of a Habitat Map of Scotland, a stated objective of Scotland's 2020 Biodiversity Strategy. For the first time this will bring together all the habitat information available for Scotland and display it in one place and in a common classification - providing a unique tool for the management of our natural heritage. We are using existing survey data and converting it to EUNIS/Annex I using the SNH Commissioned Report 766: Manual of terrestrial EUNIS habitats in Scotland (page contains links to the report in PDF format as well as to the correspondence tables), for areas where is no survey information we are managing new surveys and using remote sensing techniques to map habitats.  Please visit our pages for more information.

These data are still being worked through.  This version combines the NVC conversion data with Saltmarsh, Sand Dune and extracts of the Native Woodland Survey. Different sources are referenced by the habmos_source field - NWSS / Sand Dune Vegetation Survey 2012 / Saltmarsh Survey 2013 / ANNEX I conversion data / Coastal Vegetated Shingle.
