Last update: 2020-12-09

These are Proposed Special Protection Areas (pSPA) which may be subject to change prior to classification. These data include sites either currently at orwhich have been At consultation stage and that are awaiting decision.

SPAs in Scotland are classified by Scottish Ministers. These are areas of the most important habitat for rare (listed on Annex I to the Birds Directive) and regularly occurring migratory birds within the European Union. SPAs are classified under the EC Birds Directive and together with SACs, form the Natura 2000 network.

Please note: Rum is already a designated SPA site.  The boundary for Rum included in this dataset is the extent of the Marine feature for the purposes of this consultation.  For the full Rum SPA boundary please see the Special Protection Areas dataset under the Protected Areas category.

Please note: Orkney inshore Waters is at draft SPA status and is not afforded policy protection. Please contact SNH for further Details
