If the date next to the title of the dataset is shown in bold, it means that the data has been updated in the last two weeks.

The meaning of the icons on beside the date are as follows:

  • RSS icon click on this icon to access the RSS feed of this dataset. The feed can be added to any RSS capable news reader or email client and is a quick way to review the update history of the dataset.
  • information icon clicking on this icon will take you to a page dedicated to the selected dataset. This page contains all of the information shown in the list of datasets, but its main advantage is that you can easily print a description from there.
  • WMS icon this icon lets you know whether the dataset is available as a layer in our OGC WMS (Web Mapping Service). More information about this option here.

Once you open the description of the dataset by clicking on its title, the list of downloadable files will appear in the bottom half. Most vector data is available as ESRI shapefiles and in GML and KML format. Some datasets have complex geometry, which would make the KML file unusable, which is why these complicated datasets have been generalised (simplified) for the KML version. The shapefiles and the GML files are verbatim copies of the data we store internally. KML files are in WGS84 projection (as per the KML standard), GML files are in ETRS89 (EPSG 4258) and all other formats are in British National Grid (EPSG 27700).

All datasets are provided under the terms of an Open Government Licence.
